It bugs me when people are unnecessarily mean. Like, you didn’t have to make that comment. You could have just kept your mouth shut and left that person not feeling bad about themselves. What do you gain from making someone else feel like shit? Nothing of substance. Maybe a fleeting moment of power but that’s gone as soon as it comes so why? There’s enough unhappiness in the world without you adding to it.

Always be vague. Say I think they’re in today or not until later. If they press say it’s company policy not to give out the schedule. Most companies do have this and even if they don’t how would a stranger know. Don’t give out specifics, they can get people injured or even killed.

At my last job someone came up and asked when “Sarah” was working next. I didn’t tell him and then texted her a description, turns out he was an abusive ex who had been stalking her. Don’t do this shit please.

if you sulk and act like a sullen loser when someone asserts a boundary you’re not actually respecting their boundaries, basically if you make things unpleasant afterwards you’re creating an environment where people feel they cannot say no to you or assert themselves

This should be taught in every middle school health class

not to sound like a conservative local pastor but eight year olds should not be playing, like, call of duty even offline

of course i dont think playing violent video game by itself is going to make a kid capable of and willing to commit murder because thats also dumb as shit but children shouldnt be exposed to the concepts of violence and death before they’re able to grasp the implications of it and what effect it can have on them and the way they view the world

basically just, the cavalier attitude we have about violence in combination with never wanting to actually talk about sex in a constructive way that isn’t just used as a plot device, often in tandem with violence, in shows and games and movies is a pretty terrible combination

good things about tvtropes:

  • coined/popularized a number of terms for various tropes (including the word “trope” itself), streamlining discussions about media
  • exhaustive cataloging of examples makes it a helpful tool for discovering new stories (or finding ones to avoid) based on a person’s favorite character types or story elements
  • lack of “notability” requirements opens a theoretically equal amount/depth of analysis to everything from classic literature to children’s television to youtube video game review channels, making media analysis more accessible and appealing to people who may not be familiar with the “great works” of a particular medium

bad things about tvtropes:

  • level of analysis ranges from “film studies major” to “watched a nostalgia critic video once”

Other bad things about tvtropes:

  • You look up one thing and suddenly it’s 3 days later, you haven’t slept and you have 19000 tabs open
