bears have absolutely no right to be as cute as they are. i want to hug them and pet them. big fluffy dogs, supersized

this thing is one of the most dangerous predators in north america, is bulletproof, and could kill me in milliseconds without breaking a sweat and just. look at his big ole paws and his big ole nose. his wittle ears. i wuv him

human brain: bear will kill you

monkey brain: hehe fluffie

I’m pretty sure that it’s the human brain that’s programmed to take anything remotely familiarly-shaped and ask “friend???” so in this case

superior monkey brain: bear will kill you

human brain: but maybe also is soft???

Deleting your paragraph to text back “okay” = GROWTH

Deleting your one word reply to type out how you actually feel in a constructive and honest manner = GROWTH

not wasting your energy on someone/something that isn’t worth it = GROWTH

realizing something is important to you and actually taking the to address it, instead of brushing it off and not communicating effectively = GROWTH

the fact that community colleges are seen as less valid and for “stupid” people is a result of classism and in this essay I will-

ppl in the tags saying that it’s “genuinely a lesser tier of education because people go there for trades and nursing and thats about it” are just proving that its classism. bc a) no thats absolutely not correct. a good chunk of people that go to community colleges do so to knock out their gen eds at a lower price than they’d be if they went to a four year, then transfer to a four year. and more importantly b) trade professions are not lesser than other professions that take higher degrees. people who go into things that take associates degrees are not “stupid”.

if you think ppl who are too poor to attend a four year university for all four years, or that ppl who are too poor to/don’t want to get their bachelor’s/master’s/doctorate are “stupid” then i have news for you:

thats classism, babe

okay i just had a bad epiphany but corporate interest’s influence on the internet is going to become so much stronger now that generations that are internet naturalized have grown up and starting working as “social media consultants”. advertising is going to become so much more subtle, manipulate your behavior to a greater extent, and completely pervade every aspect of our lives the more we rely on the internet for everything from entertainment to social validation.

what im saying is its scary that corporate twitter accounts are getting good at twitter. to have the same avenue a human would to express themself. its like, an extreme anthromorphism of a brand, and that brand representing a corporate interest, and successfully passing itself off as a sentient entity on twitter, thats really weird to me.

like this is so fucked up. it doesnt immediately read as an advertisement, conceptually it executes the levels of irony and deconstruction that usually make for successful memes in this genre or whatever. its almost subverting itself, but ultimately it still succeeds as an advertisement. it makes me sick. for every misfire of corporations trying to relate (pepsi protest commercial), theres another company getting better at it

okay but like my thing about this is… who is actually eating at these places because shit like this? yeah it’s funny but i never go to wendy’s because a meme, if i go to wendy’s it’s because i want a gross burger and a frosty, same with taco bell and mcdonald’s and wherever the fuck.

i really think that you’re blowing this out of proportion and having very little faith in people’s ability to decide what they want for themselves. it’s just not that deep.

It’s not about the effectiveness of the ads in question, but their complete omnipresence in every aspect and moment of life, and how bizarre and sophisticated the mechanations of advertising have become. If people don’t call attention to these things, they become normal.

The effectiveness of marketing isnt one-to-one, like, “ad says burger is good, I think burger is good, I eat burger.” That was 50 years ago. Y’all, since then these multi-million dollar corporations have been hiring psychologists and sociologists and anthropologists to study how best to get under consumer skin and theyve figured out it’s not about making you WANT a burger,

It’s about creating a Brand Identity – an anthropomorphized personality that your brain fits into an established schema (system of thought) so it’s easier to just drop into the background of your everyday life. It’s not about making you want a burger, it’s about making it so, when you DO want a burger, the first place you think of is Wendy’s, because their ads have made you think about them five time already that day. And most importantly, it’s about making sure you dont realize how often they make you think about them, so you don’t resent how pervasive they’ve become. They do that by tricking your brain into thinking of them as just another human-like personality. Your Funny Meme Friend Wendy’s. Wine Aunt World Market. Woke Jock Nike. Even your Endearingly Unhip Uncle Geico.

(hey also if you want dozens of terrifying examples of what I mean, just type ‘brand identity schema’ into Google like I just did and take a gander at all those scholarly articles discussing how best to acquire consumers, like we’re a fucking commodity)

one time i said i didn’t like the wendys twitter and got called classist for hating retail employees

this shit works. it makes people like Brands. gets under their skin and in to their minds. when i said i didnt like the wendys twitter i personally offended people that viewed wendys as a friend, that viewed the wendys social media manager as a friendly individual that they respected.

the wendys social media manager is not your friend. they don’t even really exist. there’s no one person that writes the tweets for wendys. there’s a team of 20 something year olds that casually observe the latest meme trends and crank out mspaint memes because they know they’ll get retweeted if the memes are relevant.

they trick you in to thinking that Wendys is a hip friendly young person, and they manipulate you in to thinking that disliking marketing is somehow a “problematic” “un-woke” thing to do.

and it works

install ublock origin. on mobile, block every promoted tweet you see. don’t let them convince you that this shit is normal.

one thing that saddens me is the way in which a lot of women who don’t shave (their legs, armpits, bikini lines, etc.) will apologetically say that they’re “too lazy” to do so… as if not wanting to spend enormous amounts of time, energy, & money and to endure physical discomfort and pain for the sake of enriching razor companies can be described as “laziness.” or as if we can take it for granted that hairlessness is an aesthetic ideal that these women should aspire to & the only thing holding them back from achieving it is being unwilling to expend the effort. I don’t think that most of these women even necessarily believe that, but I do think that it’s a reflexive way of making their unwillingness to comply with such an intrusive beauty standard legible to people within the framework of patriarchal thinking. as if they have to make it legible or apologise for it at all!

Superhero movies gotta die by 2020

Nvm they gotta die tomorrow

i feel like this is greatly simplifying what has actually happened. james gunn made those tweets long before the first guardians movie came out and has since apologized for them and pledged to do better. disney was aware of these tweets when they hired him. james gunn has also been outspoken about his views against trump, earning him hate from the far right.

but this right wing guy named mike cernovich, who is known for creating fake outrages like pizzagate, and has made disgusting rape tweets of his own, dredged up the tweets recently to create new conservative outrage (and there was plenty of outrage when gunn was first hired for gotg because of those tweets, which iirc is when he apologized for them) with the sole purpose of hurting gunn’s career.

more information about fake outrage and this whole thing here

please can we take a step back from the knee-jerk for a second. yeah the tweets were garbage. we know it. he knows it. and he apologized for it ten years ago. like bonzai-bunny said, disney was AWARE when they hired him for it. he’d already publicly apologized for them. i could care less what happens to gunn. the issue here is that he tweeted extremely anti-trump stuff, and then vile alt-right accounts dug up old, and already addressed, garbage with the sole intent of getting him fired. they didn’t want him fired for the 10 year old tweets. they wanted him fired for being anti-trump. that’s why this is such a big issue, and that’s why the cast is speaking out.

whats the point in letting people grow if we burn them to the ground over decade old stuff that theyve apologized for? i guarantee not one single person reblogging this post has never said something vile, gross, or disrespectful. would you expect everyone to immediately delete their blog forever? i’m not defending what he did: it was gross. but he already got his punishment for it 10 years ago and he apologized. there is a bigger picture here, and its not about the 10 year old tweets.

yeah you don’t have to forgive Gunn and accept his apology but realize this entire thing was orchestrated by the online far right specifically in response to Gunn opposing trump and they specifically went looking to frame him and cause a controversy

They aren’t just looking to cause controversy – they are testing the waters for how big of a fish they can take out before they turn their forces on smaller, less supported artists and creators in media that are anti-Trump.

If Disney will knee-jerk turn around and fire the director for one of the most profitable and beloved veins of what is one of their biggest franchises at the tip of a hat, what chance do smaller, less supported people have?

On top of that, they relied VERY SPECIFICALLY on the reaction of the LIBERAL LEFT to do this. They leapt on the conditions that online call-out culture has created to take down someone who, as posted above, has already done their time. They’re literally using exactly the kind of thing this post started out as to take out anti-trump support.

Use your goddamn noggins for a second here, would ya? You don’t have to like James Gunn or the MCU or Disney, but you do need to be aware of the type of precedent this is setting.
